Hellenic Republic Region of Epirus

The Region of Epirus occupies the northwest part of Greece, constituting a Gateway (in and out) to the Balkans and Western Europe. It covers a total area of 9.203 square kilometers and includes four Regional Units: Arta, Thesprotia, Ioannina and Preveza.
It is characterized by its mountainous relief and abundance of surface water. It has a rich natural environment with many forests, unique flora and fauna and rare natural beauty. 31 areas of the Region are incorporated in the National List of the network Natura 2000. The cultural heritage of the area is also significant.
The population of the area is 336 856 people. In the Region major research centers operate and it is one of the regions of Greece with the higher number of researchers and employees in research and innovation sectors.
Epirus is characterized for its local products and traditional food, sweets and drinks such as dairy products, traditional pasta, baklava, pies, wines, etc.
